November 20

Today was family day and we did not get to see the students. Ms. Evert and I had the unique opportunity to participate in a group entering old tunnels and underground bunkers in Riva di Garda. Normally, no one gets to enter these mysterious formations--however, we were unusually lucky. We really got a great insight into the fightings during WWI and some great geological lessons. Here are some of our pictures (some of the students have visited Lake Garda as well) before we headed to the Christmas Market in Trento.
Riva di Garda

the view on our climb was magnificent throughout the day!!
Our group with our guide
Inside the first tunnel with a view onto the sea where a cannon used to hold back the enemy

only 120 of the steepest steps ever.... of course.. what goes down has to come back up!

And everything in total darkness--only flashlights guided our way

The outside of a fortified mountain side in a turn
afraid of heights...... and darkness....

The view is just breathtaking.... from these various strategic points, the soldiers had total control over the area
On top of the WWI bunker... picnic for lunch
Later that afternoon on Lake Garda

Oh yes, the Christmas market in Trento!
Just some crafty highlights :)

Who's that jolly ole fella?

ah si... Babbo Natale!

Tomorrow we are off to Verona. Our last day in Italy before we head to Austria on Tuesday..... time is ticking away too fast!!!!
